THE WORD FROM TIM

Qualifying for today’s 200km was abandoned after heavy rain set in at the Pukekohe circuit this morning. With qualifying cancelled, the grid positions were decided on the combined practice lap times from yesterday. This had Tim start from position 8. Tim moved up a few positions at the start of the race and was able to hold his ground throughout the race. There were a number of good battle packs emerging and in the latter part of the race the battle pack of Mostert, Reynolds and Coulthard came together, resulting in Coulthard upside down, Reynolds in the wall and Mostert with a pit lane penalty dropping him down the order. This was game changing for Mostert and Coulthard who are in the championship hunt.

Tim and the Freightliner Racing team are looking to make some small improvements to the car overnight so they can battle up the front for another 200kms tomorrow.

Tim

“Our cars have been pretty speedy over the last few rounds where we’ve raced in the wet, so we weren’t not looking forward to the wet weather today. We knew if there was rain today it was going to be pretty hairy at the resurfaced back straight which was certainly the case today. It was like driving on an ice skating rink, and why they were quick to red flag the qualifying session.”

“The car is quite different to how it was this time last year. The car turned on quite well on the green tyre which is promising. We weren’t the fastest car out there but we’ve closed the gap a little to those up the front.”

“This round is massively special for the team with the JR trophy on the line. Brad and the team want to win every race, but this is special, besides Bathurst, this is one they would love to win again. The guys have a lot of respect for JR and it’s nice to see his parents out here, they’ve spent a fair bit of time catching up with the team.”
