THE WORD OF THE DAY & WORD FROM ANDRE

Bathurst has provided its fair share of highs and lows this weekend, but as always the Freightliner Racing team rose to the challenge. Tim did a fantastic job during the first stint, gaining a number of spots in the wet and trying conditions. Andre, who stepped up to take on the co-driver duties after Ash Walsh’s injuries saw him sidelined, did a fantastic job behind the wheel, especially considering he had only completed between 10-15 laps in the Freightliner Racing Commodore prior to the race. Once the safety cars came into play, the game had changed and the race to the finish was on. In Tim’s final stint, the coolsuit, drink system and air fan failed, and with many laps remaining it was going to be a challenge. Tim pressed on, and tried to stay as cool as he could, even getting the team to remove the windows from the car, which is a common practice to keep cool air flowing through the cars. Tim eventually pitted and Andre got behind the wheel for the final laps, bringing the Freightliner Racing Commodore home in 9th position.

Andre “It was a pretty interesting day, with it raining for more than half of the race is was difficult to drive in those conditions. Visibility was poor with all the spray from cars, rain and windows fogging up. I really enjoyed the day, it was great to get a lot of laps behind the wheel of the Freightliner Commodore, especially here at Bathurst and the racing was really enjoyable.”

“It’s been a really good weekend, it’s been a little while since I’ve been behind the wheel of a Supercar but it’s like riding a bike, it all came back to me pretty quickly and easy enough. It was a challenge to learn all the different switches and that sort of thing, but I had a lot of fun and I really enjoyed the weekend with the team.”
